- 11th Lubricating Grease Conference was organised at Jaypee Residency Manor, Mussoorie during February 19-21, 2009. “Lubricating Greases – Emerging Trends” was the theme of the conference.
- Dr. K. P. Naithani, General Manager (Lube Technology) was the organizing secretary of the conference.
- The conference was inaugurated by the Chief Guest Mr. G. C. Daga, Director (Marketing), Indian Oil Corporation Limited. In his speech the Chief Guest advised the need to develop energy efficient products.
- Mr. Anand Kumar, Director (R&D), Indian Oil Corporation Limited was the Guest of Honour. In his address he emphasized the need to develop biobased environment friendly products besides reducing carbon foot prints.
- Mr. V. N. Sharma, President, NLGI India Chapter delivered the welcome address and deliberated on the details of the conference.

- Dr. R. K. Malhotra, ED, (R&D), delivered the theme address during the inaugural function.
- NLGI- USA was represented by Dr. Raj Shah of M/s. Koehler Instruments, USA who also addressed the gathering.
- Dr. R. T. Mooken was the technical convener and also conducted the technical sessions during the conference.
- Mr. N. R. Bhoopatkar, Vice President, Apar Limited was conferred ‘Life Time Achievement Award’ and Mr. J. L. Raina, Secretary General, Petrotech Society was conferred ‘Long Service Award’ on this occasion.
- For the first time, more than 190 participants attended the conference, among which 19 were Foreign delegates.
- The valedictory address was given by Dr. S. J. Chopra, Chancellor, University of Petroleum & Energy Studies (UPES), Dehradun.
- A total of 29 presentations out of which 7 were presented by Foreign authors. The notable subjects of presentations were by Prof. Lou A. T. Honary of University of Northern Iowa, USA on the topic of Bio-Lubricants and by Prof. Refaat A. El-Adly of Egyptian Petroleum Research Institute, Nasr City. Cairo-Egypt on the use of Jojoba oil / meal in lubricating grease compositions.
- The papers presented were in the area of lubricating greases, gear oils, additive chemistry, evaluations, etc. These presentations were not only appreciated by delegates but will certainly keep a bench mark for future research.
- The other important topics of presentation were on Synthetic greases, Performance plus greases, Tractor Lubricants, Food grade Lubricants, EP & AW additives, Simulation model for grease manufacturing, analytical techniques, etc. Two business talks were also presented where the presenters showcased the technologies of their products.
- Dr. N. K. Pokhriyal and Mr. Ajay Kumar Harinarain of Indian Oil R&D Centre received best paper awards for their presentations entitled “Noise level characterization of various lubricating greases” and “Test method for assessment of micro pitting properties of Industrial gear oils” respectively.
 
- There were 7 exhibition stalls including one from overseas viz. SKF, Austria.
- The success of conference was evident from the vibrant interactions and excellent feedback given by the delegates during question answer and valedictory session.
- As decided by the board to involve academia in the NLGI activities, 12 students from UPES were invited and were exposed to the technical and organizational activities of the conference.
- The spouses accompanying the delegates visited Dhanolty, the picturesque hill point of Mussoorie which was enjoyed and appreciated by all.
- This conference was generously sponsored by 17 companies.
